Howie D solo on new album

Posted by Nicky on Nov 27,2011. No Comments

Backstreet’s Back! OK, so maybe just one fifth.

Backstreet Boy member Howie D (Dorough) just released his first solo album, Back To Me, becoming the last active member of the late-’90s boy band — Kevin Richardson left the group in 2006 — to do so.

“I started working on it back when we took our first (group) break (between 2001-2003),” said Dorough, 38, in Toronto recently promoting the disc.

“When I initially started working on it, I was going a little bit more in the Latin direction, my Latin roots, my mother being Spanish, and would work on it on and off between (Backstreet) album cycles and tours.”

To Dorough’s relief, the Latin idea was dropped and he reverted to the Backstreet fan-friendly sound of smooth R&B-pop and uptempo numbers. Read the rest of this entry »

Howie D Doing Crunches Before Britney Spears Lap Dance

Posted by Nicky on Nov 20,2011. No Comments

Backstreet Boy jokes to MTV News that he’ll be ready ‘if she does, by chance, pick me to do that’ on Femme Fatale Tour.

Howie D is set to hit the road with Britney Spears on her Femme Fatale Tour this weekend, but there’s one thing he may not be ready for: getting one of her famous onstage lap dances.

“I just heard about it, and it just means that I have to go into major workout mode now,” the Backstreet Boy joked to MTV News. “I have to do more pushups and crunches than I ever did, because I want to make sure that I represent myself and my group properly.”

If Brit does decide to give him a lap dance, he already sees a potential perk. “If she does, by chance, pick me to do that, which I’m not opposed to, it’s a good get-out-of-jail-free card for me,” he laughed, pointing to his wedding band. “So I’m down with it. It’s all in the name of music.” Read the rest of this entry »

Howie Dorough Sets His Sights On Broadway

Posted by Nicky on Jul 28,2011. No Comments

Backstreet Boys star Howie Dorough is looking for the perfect Broadway break so he can launch an acting career like fellow boy band stars Joey Fatone, Kevin Richardson and Justin Timberlake.

The singer was catapulted into superstardom with the popular boy band in the 1990s with hits like I Want It That Way and Larger Than Life, and his success forced Dorough to shelve his love for acting.

Now, after realising a dream of recording a solo album, he’s keen to get back to his first love.

But for now the hitmaker, who is currently on a joint Backstreet Boys/New Kids On The Block tour, can’t wait to release his first solo album and begin taking on new projects apart from the group.

He tells WENN, “When I was younger I kind of did the triple-threat thing – the acting, singing and dancing – just trying to get my big break in some way or another. I’ve always had a passion for acting. That’s why I love when we do music videos, because it gives me a chance to do a little bit of acting.

“Eventually I’d like a dual career between music and acting, whether it’s in movies or plays or musicals. Eventually I’d love to do a run on Broadway in some show.” [Source]
